Bahia Blanca GasPort

South America’s first LNG import terminal.

At a Glance

Bahía Blanca GasPort®, located 400 miles south of Buenos Aires in the port city of Bahía Blanca, was Argentina’s first LNG receiving facility.

Project Role

Strategic Partner, Commissioning, Operator Training, FSRU

Since the arrival of Excelerate Energy’s FSRUs to Argentina in 2008 in Bahía Blanca and then in 2011 in Escobar, one hundred percent of the imported and regasified LNG into the country has been through Excelerate’s FSRUs.

Given the high seasonality of Argentina’s natural gas consumption, LNG has played a critical role in meeting the country’s energy needs. During peak winter demand, Excelerate’s FSRUs provide energy security to the national grid, ensuring natural gas is available to power and heat homes and businesses.

  • GasPort dockside configuration with ship-to-ship transfer
  • Operates in closed-loop vaporization mode
  • Direct access to industrial consumers and Argentina’s natural gas grid
  • High-pressure gas arm incorporated into the design
