With a significantly lower capital cost than a traditional, land-based terminal, our floating regasification projects have a typical project timeline of approximately 12 months from investment decision to operation, depending on location. Our development team will design and engineer an import solution that best suits your requirements, taking into account your geographic location and its environmental conditions.
Excelerate Energy’s floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) act, in all aspects, similar to a land-based terminal. In addition to transporting LNG, our purpose-built FSRUs have the onboard capability to vaporize LNG and deliver natural gas through specially designed offshore and near-shore receiving facilities. Our FSRUs can deliver regasified LNG at pipeline pressure at flow rates ranging from 50 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscf/d) to 800 MMscf/d, providing quick and convenient access to incremental gas supplies. Our solutions use a combination of proven technologies and equipment and can also be integrated with existing infrastructure.
How it Works
Our FSRU is permanently moored to a docking facility at a location close to a market access point. Depending on the geographic location and environmental conditions, the mooring infrastructure is tailored to fit specific environmental requirements.
Our Company’s proprietary dockside LNG receiving terminal technology – the GasPort® – is the shoreside application of our floating regasification technology. Our FSRUs are moored to a GasPort structure and can quickly and safely discharge natural gas to market through a jetty-mounted, articulated, high-pressure (HP) gas-offloading arm.

Our proprietary deepwater LNG receiving terminal – the Gateway™ – is the offshore application of our floating regasification technology. It is especially suited to areas where near-shore access is not possible, due to depth restrictions, or where onshore congestion would preclude it. A Gateway terminal consists of a subsea buoy system anchored offshore and linked to a subsea pipeline to shore by a flexible riser. This buoy system is used as both the mooring mechanism for our FSRUs and as the conduit through which natural gas is delivered to the subsea pipeline.

01 LNG Delivery:
LNG carriers moor alongside the FSRU to deliver cargos. Our FSRUs are compatible with the various LNG carriers commonly utilized in the industry. FSRUs are capable of receiving and delivering full or partial loads in order to meet the required needs of the market at any given time.
02 STS Transfer of LNG:
LNG supplies are delivered to our FSRUs through periodic transfers from traditional LNG carriers in accordance with our Ship-to-ship (STS) LNG transfer protocol. The process is composed of a conventional LNG carrier mooring alongside the FSRU and transferring its cargo to the FSRU via flexible cryogenic hoses. The regasification of LNG continues uninterrupted throughout the STS LNG transfer procedure, ensuring a continuous supply of gas to the local market.
Both of our regasification solutions are engineered to connect to an existing natural gas distribution network. Our FSRUs discharge high-pressure natural gas to shore via pipeline.

Cost Effective: In most cases, a floating regasification solution is more cost effective per MMbtu than a traditional land-based solution.
Time Efficient: A floating solution can be implemented in one to three years versus a land-based terminal which typically takes four to six years to develop.
Minimal Footprint: A dockside or offshore regasification facility requires less land use than a land-based terminal, thus minimizing environmental impacts to the surrounding environment.
Full Scalability: Small-Scale LNG Solutions
In addition to providing regasification services, our FSRUs can act as a hub for small-scale LNG deliveries. Small-scale LNG provides an effective solution for delivering clean-burning natural gas to consumers who, due to either geographic conditions or small demand, do not have access to pipeline networks.
