Damien Tay Strengthens Excelerate Energy’s Expanding APAC Commercial Team

APRIL 1, 2021

Excelerate Energy welcomes Damien Tay as Director of Downstream Business Development Asia Pacific (APAC). In this role, Damien will be responsible for originating and executing integrated LNG to power projects and downstream gas opportunities across the region. Damien joined the company on February 22, 2021 and will be based in our expanding Singapore regional office.

With several of the world’s fastest-growing economies located in APAC, the urgent need for expanding energy access to keep pace with demand is crucial for continued growth and quality of life in many of these countries. Excelerate currently operates three LNG terminals in the region, with a fourth terminal in the permitting phase.

Excelerate’s Vice President of Asia Pacific Ramon Wangdi stated: “Our strong commitment to addressing the long-term energy needs of the APAC region is evident with our continued investment in new talent like Damien. He brings over a decade of project finance and downstream development experience to Excelerate, and his expertise will help further expand our presence in Asia as a trusted, reliable energy provider.”

Prior to joining Excelerate, Damien was General Manager of Commercial Business Development at Summit Power International, the Singapore-based holding company for Bangladesh’s largest independent power producer, where he closed the project financings for the Summit LNG Terminal and two power plants (307 MW and 590 MW plants). Damien also held a position as a Business Developer in Glencore’s Oil & Gas projects team in Singapore, where he worked on the 12-month tolling arrangement in a 50:50 joint venture with BP, and subsequent bid for Jurong Aromatics Corporation, one of the world’s largest petrochemical plants. Before returning home to Singapore, Damien was at London-based Gasol, the lead developer of the €500m+ Malta LNG to power project, the EMEA region’s first such project integrating (i) LNG storage on a Floating Storage Unit and onshore regasification with (ii) a newbuild 215 MW CCGT plant.

Damien holds a Master of Finance from Cambridge University. He graduated from Singapore Management University with a Bachelor of Business Management.
